Hunger and food waste are among the biggest problems that Brazil faces, becoming one of the biggest paradoxes of the country. Now Brazil produces about 140 million tons of food per year and is one of the largest exporters of agricultural products in the world, at the same time that we have millions of poor people without access to food. The Food Bank project here presented by BRAZILIAN AMERICAN OPEN ARMS FOUNDATION, it is a set of actions in order to promote safety food and nutrition for all brazilian people. Leading off from the city of Itaporanga / PE, Piancó Valley region is a pilot project, but aimes to be deployed in all brazilian needy regions at medium and long term. Overall Objective: Contributing to the reduction of hunger and malnutrition of poor people, taking advantage of the surplus food in perfect condition for consumption, passing it (free of charge) to needy and reputable institutions. Specific Objectives:

  • a) To contribute to the formulation and implementation of a collection system and distribution of food, which can guarantee the right for food and nutrition to underserved populations.
  • b) To ensure access to quality food in adequate quantity to population groups in a situation of food and nutrition insecurity, seeking their social inclusion
  • c) To promote local development strategies and / or micro-regional and to support family agriculture, with a focus on food and nutrition security.
  • d) To promote food and nutrition education and improve eating habits and to combate food waste.
  • e) To maintain an ongoing program to fight food waste, referring them to social institutions that offer meals but do not have
  • genres in sufficient quantity, by collecting, sorting and distributingdonated food.
  • f) Supplementary food served in social institutions, daycare centers, nursing homes, hostels, orphanages and others, within the concept of food and nutrition security.
  • g) Promoting social action of companies, primarily in the areas of production, distribution and marketing of foods, through the redirection of donated food.
  • h) To encourage and promote voluntary action as a form of participation in community development.
  • i) Ensuring the highest quality of food since its donation to final consumption, being guided by the criteria of food security.
  • j) To train food handlers of social institutions and volunteers.
The foundation receives projects throughout the whole year. They will be evaluated by the project director and discussed by the board of the foundation project viability. The main factor to be analyzed is the contribution the project brings to society. After approval it will be placed on our “Projects Database.” Projects that are entered into our “Projects Database” will be working on finding sponsors for enabling or even subsidized by the foundation itself. ” For more information contact us by e-mail: [email protected] or [email protected] Director of Projects Rosana Lashley
